PS3 and Xbox 360 Components Could ‘Interfere with’ Sexual Development
Greenpeace is going after game consoles once again and this time the environmental campaigning body has linked the PS3 and Xbox 360 to interfere with sexual development.
Following the publication of a report detailing the chemical make-up of the three new-gen consoles, Greenpeace has said on its website:
“Components of the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation3 also contained high levels of phthalates, one of which – DEHP – is known to interfere with sexual development in mammals: including humans and, especially, males.”
I am not sure how they are determining this or even if this has been studied, The fact that they say the consoles contains high levels of phthalates and, one of them is DEHP, makes me wonder exactly how much of the high levels of phthalates is actually DEHP. Also the the words “is known to” tells me that there hasn’t been a study done in this specific case.
I am not saying that we gamers should write this off, because if this is true it sounds like there could be some very serious side effects. Here’s to me hoping this is Greenpeace overreacting.
